Building Walls To
Stand The Test Of Time

By definition;
"A wall that is built to keep the land behind it from sliding."

For durable and aesthetically pleasing retaining walls in Christchurch, trust TBT Earthworks Ltd. Whether that be timber pole retaining walls, concrete retaining walls, or block retaining walls - we have a customized solution that meets your specific requirements.

No two retaining walls are exactly the same, and we treat them as such. Some walls require consent and engineering design, while others don't. We assess each project on its own individual requirements and deal with them accordingly.

Not only do we do the excavation-related work, but we also build the retaining walls, communicate with the council, coordinate with engineers, and manage any related drainage subcontractors required. Alternatively, we can work seamlessly off existing plans and consents.

Tricky and steep jobs are our specialty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions we get regarding our retaining wall builds, council consent processes, and structural boundaries.

Generally timber is the cheapest, however, the retaining wall design and material depends heavily on the specific site conditions and the type of load it is retaining.
This depends on a few factors. You generally don't need a consent if you build under 1.5m in height. BUT once you have a 'surcharge' (e.g. a house, carpark, steep slope, or some form of weight on that retaining wall) you will likely require an engineer to design the retaining wall, followed by a council consent. We have great contacts for engineers who can design and complete the consent process for you.

TBT built a timber pole wall on our Port Hills property. They handled everything - consents, design, and build - and the result is stunning.

Margaret and I wish to say thanks to every one at TBT earthworks for the fantastic job they did on our retainer wall. We are thrilled with the finished product and the professional way they carried out their work. We found Terry and Trent very easy to work with.
